Portable Electronics Market: The Booming Industry

There has been a rapid growth in the market for portable electronic equipment. One of the main issues is that how to enhance the life of the product and lowering the power consumption by it. Several benefits will be provided by low power consumption such as smaller battery can be used in some devices, which will make the device easy to carry. Another main stimulator behind the rapid growth in the demand of portable consumer electronics is cost. Introduction of portable mass-market consumer electronic devices has generated a need for processors that can maximize battery life by lower power consumption. Lower power consumption and reduced packaging cost are the two key benefits offered by smaller batteries. During the past few years, flash-based devices have dominated portable electronics market. However, increased interest in a variety of storage media can now be seen amongst customers. It can be said that this year (2006) will see the arrival of a number of new CD/MP3 and hard drive-based portable products from both the traditional as well as emerging market players. The latest example is that of Sonic Blue. It has come up with Rio Riot, RCA is further expanding its Lyra line with a 10GB & 20GB player. Creative Labs is also coming up with a 10Gbyte and 20Gbyte Nomad. Although, these potable products are a bit too expensive, they offer users with an opportunity to manage collections of music with a storage capacity of up to 340hrs. Being light weighted it's easy to carry it with them wherever they go. The increasing market for portable electronics highlights a theme for the interactive entertainment industry i.e. increasing platform diversity. We come across multiple challenges in this sector such as pressure on costs, shrinking-market windows, growingly demanding design complexity, and the problems associated with aiming designs at new processes. A design-led approach will make up for a solid base for a proliferation of latest Audio Video Controller (AVC) portable electronic products for fuelling consumer-electronics digital revolution.
