How To Write A Great Resume

So you want to know how to write a great resume, huh? Well, how do we define a “great resume”? In my experience, someone who know's how to write a great resume makes sure it is pleasing to look at, easy to read, and contains all the information necessary to show that the person represented can do the job in an effective and efficient manner. A great resume should look professional and reflect the abilities of the person it is meant to represent without a lot of fluff in between the lines.

Knowing how to write a great resume could quite possibly be one of the most valuable business skills you can ever learn. People move from job to job a lot more than was common in the past. People are constantly looking for new challenges, more money, and more satisfaction, so learning the skill and knowing how to write a great resume is an advantage you will always have. Good resumes get interviews but great resumes get jobs.

A great resume will be succinct enough to only include the necessary information about you – the job applicant. Great resumes are always written in a professional and positive manner and keenly focus on the abilities, skills, and talents that can benefit your future employer. Perhaps that can seem a little daunting to represent on paper, but when you know the best words to use it becomes quite simple. A thesaurus can be a life saver here when you are searching for the correct words.

Beware of the words you do use. Ensure that they are dynamic and describe the job and be positive about your role. You could be standing behind a counter at McDonalds but you can still focus on the positive aspects of that job. For example, if you prepare any drinks, you are responsible for quality control. When you give the customers their orders, you are insuring good customer service. You are responsible for cash flow when you punch the orders into the till and take the money from the customer. A job can sound much better when you “bull it up” in a creative way!
