None of us will find an expiration date on makeup as we do on medicines, which is why, according to my friends, the more we have to check and inspect our kikay kits, and sort out the old from the new to prevent skin irritation and other problems. Brushes. Makeup brushes are important in makeup application. They come in various shapes and sizes and are used to give you a flawless finish. They also do something else, which you may or may not be aware of: They can harbor tons of dirt and bacteria, which can cause acne breakouts and aggravate skin conditions. Frequent care for your brushes cannot only prolong usage (they can be quite expensive!) but doing so can help to keep your face clean and healthy. So, every so often, stick the bristles of your brushes under running water. Apply a small amount of shampoo, or Cetaphil cleanser, which I use on my skin, and gently lather. Once the brushes are free of makeup, rinse, pat dry with clean hand towel and leave the brushes to air dry. Take note: do not put the brushes in a glass in an upright position, because the remaining dirt or makeup will just fall off back into the bristles. Blushes/eye shadow. These are good for six months if used often. Unopened, they may last a year. If you notice discoloration in the blush or if they form some patches, then it is time to throw them away. I had both a blush and an eye shadow that I’ve been using for three years because they were my favorite shades but I noticed that each time I used them, I got rashes. Now I know why! If you accidentally drop your purse, which has your blush in it, resulting in a big chip on the cake, don’t use it at once. You may buy those small rounded containers that usually come in a pack together with soap dishes and cologne spray bottles and use that to store your blush or even eye shadow. Foundation. This one is good for six months. If you don’t use it often, store it in the refrigerator for longer shelf life. Sponges. Wash your sponges as often as you can especially if used regularly. Do not store wet sponge in your compact because it can introduce bacteria and leave a bad smell too. Air dry first. It is much better if you have more than one sponge stored in your dresser so you can alternately use them while drying off the other one. Wrap the dry sponge in clean tissue paper and store them in a cool dry place. Curl lash. Replace the rubber part on your lash at least six months to a year, again depending on how often you use it. Remove excess mascara from the rubber part of the curl lash as you are cleaning it. Last thing, clean your makeup bag at least every three months or wash if needed to keep it looking as good as new. Taking good care of your makeup kit is a must. It shows how much you value your things and your self. Not only are you saving money you are also saving a lot of time and being smart and organized about things in your life.
