Light, since the advent of time, has had astounding effects on human beings, even the most negligible of all one cannot ignore. Whether it acts as the main source facilitating photosynthesis so that we, humans, have an alternative to just being a carnivore or as the warmth supplying factor during cold, chilly winters, it is the sun that nourishes us in one way or another. The full sunlight spectrum contains a variety of essential nutrients even for our skin. Sunlight being a major source of Vitamin D can cause skin problems such as rickets, if kept deprived for a longer period of time. People living in the northern latitudes of the world experience prolonged periods of cold, dark nights and less of the bright, sunny days and hence are more susceptible to skin severities like this. Science, however, a yet another blessing discovered and manipulated by humans, for humans, has made this less of a worry now! Artificial means of producing light comparable to that of sunlight has now been made possible to promote healthy living beings on this planet, a term more commonly known as Light Therapy!
Light therapy and light therapy products have proven themselves to be arevolution in health care. Well acclaimed as a budding technology to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), insomnia, sleeping disorders and healing infectious skin problems such as eczema or rickets, light therapy is paving its way in through each of our lives. Infrared LED light therapy is one such procedure adopted to promote a healthy skin, whereby a panel of infrared lights delivering low level light pulses is projected onto the skin from a safe distance. Being three times more brighter than sunlight, this light tends to activate the skin cells, working more or less like photosynthesis thereby converting light energy already present in skin cells to promote a healthy looking skin with least visible signs of aging.
In order to understand the use of light therapy for minimizing skin ageing effects, we have to go through certain underlying causes of ageing. One of the major factors that accelerate the effect of ageing is time, the chronological effect it has on our bodies and the latter tend to deteriorate with the passage of time. The second important cause is photo-ageing, the effect sun's harmful rays cast on our skin. What happens is that as we tend to grow older, the amounts of collagen and elastin, the two major supporting proteins in our body, start diminishing. The lack of collagen starts drying and thinning up our skin and elastin losses make the skin less flexible. This is when wrinkles, crease and folds start appearing on the surfaces which once had been taut! These are the indications that the body's natural regeneration processes are slowing down and hence something needs to be done to revitalize or rejuvenate the skin. This is where light therapy plays its role, whereby a measured safe amount of light stimulates the skin cells to produce new collagen and elastin, hence restoring the lost beauty!
Not only does light therapy aids in skin rejuvenation, but has also been doing wonders for people usually youngsters, suffering from the never-ending acne problem! The propioni acne bacteria, even present in a normal, healthy skin activate its growth in anaerobic conditions. Blocked skin pores supplement this oxygen-less condition, thus resulting in visible pimples. Some hormonal changes may also be addendums to the root cause of acne. Despite massaging yourself with anti-acne creams and lotions or washing your face repeatedly with anti-acne bars might sometimes be of no use. Blue light therapy, under such severe circumstances can relieve you of the pertinent problem. With a wavelength of 415 nanometers, it propels a biochemical reaction within the skin that results is releasing oxygen hence diminishing the bacteria's growth or even killing it successfully at times!
To sum up, whether it be the restoring of body's natural collagen production, minimizing skin blemishes, redness, scars or patches or be it to treat acne severities, light therapy, in this advanced field of medicine, can no longer be ignored!
