         Do you get an upset stomach whenever you eat something spicy or perhaps when you’re exposed to a stressful situation? You may be suffering needlessly from a stomach ulcer. There is no need to panic. Ulcers are a common and growing occurrence in today’s busy world. While no single cause has been found for ulcers, there are plenty of symptoms such as burning pain in stomach between meals or at night, bloating, heartburn, and nausea. All of these symptoms are caused by an imbalance between digestive fluids in the stomach and the duodenum wall. Ulcers often heal on their own but that doesn’t mean you should ignore their warning signs. If not properly treated through healthy lifestyle changes or medications, ulcers can lead to serious health problems. Often times, the best way to treat a stomach ulcer is to prevent them from forming in the first place. Here are tips to doing just that:
    1. Step One – Try avoid stress at work and at home. Stress is a huge factor in ulcers, since you often are left with no way to express your anger in certain situations. Take your job as an example. If you gnash your teeth all day, consider changing jobs, joining a support group or seeing a counselor.
    2. Step Two - Check your blood type. People with blood type O are thirty-five percent more susceptible to getting ulcers than those with type A, B or AB. If you are type O, you may need to start paying attention to your lifestyle, especially your level of stress.
    3. Step Three - Speak your mind. This is a great way to alleviate stress. Learn to say and express how you feel without sounding harsh or hurtful. Learn to use "I" statements like, "I feel ... ,"
    4. Step Four – Take care of your stomach. Avoid taking aspirin on an empty stomach. Don't drink coffee or take vitamin C on an empty stomach. Stay away from highly acidic diets and pepper. Common sense always plays a part. For example, don't eat seven pickles for lunch with an empty stomach.
    5. Step Five - Have your doctor perform a test to see whether you have the helicobactor pylori bacteria if ulcers run in your family.
    6. Step Six - Eat healthfully and try to drink eight glasses of water a day. Eating lots of high-fiber foods will keep your digestive system in optimal performance.
    7. Step Seven – Exercise is always good for you. No matter your ills, it always seems to be a cure. By exercising aerobically at least four times a week, you’ll reduce the harmful effects of stress, leaving you feeling relaxed and calm.
    If you think you have an ulcer, the first thing you will need to do is visit your doctor. You’ll then need to eliminate the substances and factors which can be causing them. If you know or think you know something which may be the cause then take this one easy step: stay away from it. Seek the opinion of your doctor before following of any diet treatment and regiment. Only a doctor can provide you with advice on what is safe and most effective for you.
