What is Inflammatory Bowel Disease?

Inflammatory bowel disease is a term that describes two similar conditions called Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. These diseases affect both the digestive system, resulting with the intestines becoming inflamed, and often can form sores on the walls of the intestines that bleed.

The most common symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease can include:

Diarrhea
Rectal bleeding
Abdominal pain
Fatigue
Cramping
Weight loss
Skin and eye irritations

The symptoms vary from person to person and may vary on a daily basis for the same sufferer of the disease. Extreme constipation can be one of the symptoms, followed by days of diarrhea. Inflammatory bowel disease is that unpredictable. The unpredictability of irritable bowels disease can cause embarrassment and create stress as a person tries to cope with their lives. Depression and other mental illnesses are often linked to patients with ongoing symptoms associated with inflammatory bowel disease.

Crohn's disease may run in families and can affect women and men equally. Diagnose is difficult as the symptoms are similar to irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis…..
