10 Tips for Acid Reflux Sufferers

Have you suffered from acid reflux attacks? Then you know what they feel like. You've experienced the fiery pain of stomach acids backing up into your esophagus and throat!

The good news is that there are quite a few treatments that can help you to feel better. But before you diagnose yourself, you should check with your doctor to see what he or she advises. That's because the symptoms of acid reflux disease and heart disease often feel similar. You’re probably aware of the fact that your esophagus and heart are right by each other in your chest cavity.

The following 10 tips just might help you if you are suffering from acid reflux disease:

1. Don't eat too rapidly as that can easily set off an acid reflux attack. So slow down when you eat and enjoy your meals in a relaxed manner.

2. It's important to know what foods set your acid reflux symptoms off. Does chocolate give you a heartburn attack? How about spaghetti? Does drinking orange juice or lemonade cause acid indigestion?

3. Overweight can make symptoms of acid reflux disease worse since the excess fat presses on the stomach and releases acid into the esophagus.

4. Don't let yourself become stressed out because stress can play a major factor in aggravating acid reflux attacks.

5. You may know this already, but taking antacids on a regular basis is not that good for you. They're really only a short-term solution and not a long-term one. But you might want to check with your local health food store for herbal remedies and digestive enzymes. You could also try ginger tea and aloe vera juice.

6. Did you know that fatty foods and fried foods can initiate symptoms of acid indigestion. So if you suffer from acid indigestion after eating fatty foods, it may be a good idea to remember this fact the next time you are tempted with that luscious hot fudge sundae!

7. If you eat too much food at a meal it can back up on you with painful burning symptoms of acid reflux disease. So don't fill yourself up to the bursting point!

8. Keep your digestive system working properly by including enough fiber in your daily diet. You just might find that your heartburn symptoms don't act up as often or even go away completely.

9. Exercise regularly for your health's sake. You'll feel better and you'll look better. You may even have fewer acid reflux attacks as well.

10. If you find that your acid reflux symptoms are much worse at night when you go to sleep, put blocks under the top of your bed to raise your head. Gravity may help keep acid in your stomach where it belongs. There are also specially-made acid reflux pillows to help in case you need one.

Now that you've read the 10 tips listed above to help you with your acid reflux disease, try putting one or more of them into practice. You might even want to put all 10 of them into practice. Then enjoy a healthier you.
