Once a pain relief drug is approved and out there for you to buy over the counter or for your doctor to prescribe, that's it, right? Wrong! Even after drugs are approved, they continue to be studied. Data continues to be gathered about side effects people experience; other drugs, foods or supplements that might interact; and what dosages work the best. Warning labels might need to be added to bottles if a problem is identified over time. The headlines came fast and furious starting Sept. 30, 2004, the day Merck dramatically pulled its blockbuster painkiller rofecoxib (Vioxx) off the market, citing increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Since the introduction of the COX-2 inhibitor Vioxx in 1999, 91 million prescriptions had been written in the United States alone - making its withdrawal the biggest drug turnabout in history, and an even stronger case for natural pain relief. Arthritis doesn't discriminate. It affects not only people of all ages and ethnic groups-- including children -- but also strikes our furry friends, too. If you're a dog-owner, you make sure your buddy takes his vitamins, eats well, looks bright-eyed and playful, and greets you as only a doggy can when you come home. You notice changes in mood and activity, so if your pet isn't feeling his best you may suspect a cold or stomach virus - but it could be arthritis. In fact, arthritis affects one in every five adult dogs in the U.S. and is one of the most common sources of chronic pain that veterinarians treat. It is very gratifying to see humans relieved of pain, which was my primary purpose in creating 'Naturally Painless'. But when the same product can serve as a natural pain remedy for animals, as well, it really is a thrill. I have had that pleasure of relieving pain for animals at both ends of the size spectrum – a horse and a Chihuahua. Both had pain in their shoulders and with very few applications and no side effects, were soon back to their old selves again.
