Whether it's a big date or a career changing meeting bad breath can ruin your chances. You may have chronic bad breath or simply breath that reflects what you ate for lunch. Your best friend offers you some gum or you take the "bad breath self test," but you have it. Each of us has dealt with bad breath once in our lives and read on to discover how to reduce or get rid of bad breath once and for all.

Get rid of bad breath with these 10 tips:

    1. Make of list of all the medications you are currently taking and ask your pharmacist about the side effects of these medications. It is possible that one of those or a combination of these could cause bad breath. If you find out that one or more medications you now take are causing bad breath ask your doctor about prescribing another medication in its place.

    2. Keep a food journal. Write down all the food you eat and drink for seven days. Also make note of any "special ingredients" like garlic, onions, or fish. After a few days do some online research into whether any of these foods cause bad breath.

    3. Reduce or eliminate any foods that cause bad breath.

    4. If, after examining your diet you cannot find a food culprit start looking for ways to get rid of bad breath for good. Many products, whether herbal or 'standard', are targeted for bad breath sufferers, however, be aware that you probably have products at your home that can get rid of bad breath forever without costing a fortune.

    5. One quick way to rid yourself of post-meal bad breath is to chew (DO NOT SWALLOW) on a sprig or parsley or mint for a minute or two before and after your meal. Check your teeth in a mirror to make sure you don't have any flecks between your teeth.

    6. Keep a travel-size container of mouthwash or sugar-free gum with you as a backup plan. However, do not suck on peppermints or other sugar containing hard candies or gum. The sugar feeds bad breath causing bacteria that live on your tongue.

    7. You should consume plenty of water - yes water- during the day. Not only does this wash away food particles and bacteria from your mouth, it also keeps you completely hydrated. This reduces bad breath caused by dry-mouth.

    8. The back of your tongue houses bacteria that cause bad breath. Use a tongue scraper to physically remove this 'film' of bacteria.

    9. Similar to #8, always brush your tongue when your brush your teeth.

    10. Your mother was right . . . always floss daily. If you can't floss after each meal (this is ideal) then floss once a day, perhaps right before your bedtime teeth brushing. This removes any food particles that are caught between your teeth.
