why tobacco hasn't been banned

When i decided to write an article stating the main reasons why people should give up smoking, a million and one reasons came to mind, but then i thought on, anyone can write a list as long as my arm on the dangers of smoking. The point is that even though 99% of smokers out there, know that its harming there body, It still don't stop them from waking each morning and reaching straight for the cigarette and lighter. Why? is it cos people are afraid to quit? is it cos they decide to turn a cheek to the truth, that smoking is slowly killing them? or is it simply that they just keep putting it off till another day? not realizing until its too late. Whatever the reason people decide to carry on smoking, shouldn't someone be doing something? saying something? Well as i found out, after been a smoker of 13 years myself, the reason nobody doe's anything is because if there was no smokers, no cigarettes been made! There would be one hell of a hole in the governments pockets. `And that is the reason, but before you start thinking of me as some loony, lets take a look at a few facts:
The Tobacco Industry kills more than 3 million people worldwide every year.- more than heroin, cocaine and all illegal drugs combined.
90% of lung cancer, 30% in all cancers and 25% of all heart disease occurs in those who have smoked,
in the run up to the last election cycle, tobacco industry chiefs donated just short of £5 million to the top political parties.
the Government knows that smoke from cigarettes brings only diseases! not only to the smoker but also to the people around them.
although the government is trying to reduce smoking through restrictions on advertising, at the same time the same government depends on the billions of pounds they collect from taxes on smokers. So in my opinion the government are playing the joker card, and guess what ? were it. If they wanted to they could just ban it all together, but that's never going to happen and as long as they are cigarettes for sale in the shops, they'll be smokers going into them shops to buy them. Its a win win situation for them. The only thing any of us can do is refuse to be part of it and stop smoking.
