Braided Bully Sticks – Are They Good For Small Dogs?

Braided bully sticks or beef puzzles are a very healthy treat for small dogs to chew on. They are becoming more popular than rawhide bones or cooked bones. You will find them advertised as being made from beef tendons or muscles and this is no lie, but what remains unsaid is that the sticks are actually made from bull penises. Most people don’t want to know about it and even feel repulsed; hence braided sticks were put on the market as an alternative.

The bully sticks can be purchased in various sizes depending on how small your dog is and if you have no objection to where the sticks come from you can buy them plain, if you do, get the braided or ringed varieties. The actual length of the bully stick is about 40 inches long and after a long and thorough process it is cut into smaller lengths. You can find them very easily in an of the specialty dog food stores, departmental stores and other dog stores and maybe even in your vet’s office. Of course the internet is flooded with information about online stores that sell them. You can get small packets or buy them in bulk; for small dogs the stick will probably last a good week.

Braided bully sticks are an all natural dog chew and some of the brands do not use any preservatives or chemicals. An even safer bet is to buy the sticks that come from free range cattle and organically fed cattle. There are many benefits in giving your dog these sticks to chew. The bully sticks contain approximately 80% of protein in the dried form and are a good source of glucosamine which helps your dog to develop healthy joints. The best advantage really is that he will be so busy chewing on the bully stick he will forget all about that nice cushion or those bedroom slippers just begging to be shredded!

The sticks are not without some risks. If your dog chews of a big piece and then swallows it whole, he can choke. It is best to give the dog the chew treat while you are around to keep an eye on him, especially small dogs who are very determined.

Braided bully sticks last longer than rawhide and can be easily digested because they are all natural dog treats.
