CD Covers - Brighten Your Corner of the World

Album art as reflected in the covers for major musical releases has become almost as much of a collector's item as the music release itself. The artistic emphasis on many of the CD releases was intended to convey not only a sense of the musical construction, but of the personality and theme of the artist. The CD covers have become a form of artistic expression that has a great deal of support in the art world as well as in the musical world.

Because of the rapid changeover from long-playing stereo albums to ipod recordings that are carried around hooked to one's belt or pocket, CD covers are not so apparent as record album covers used to be. Perhaps that is the reason why album art is taking its role in the artistic world very seriously.

The obvious use for CD covers, of course is to serve as the information placed inside the jewel case in which your CDs are stored. The cover usually includes a picture or pictures, perhaps of the artist, along with information about the title of the album, the publishing information and often a list of the songs or tracks on the CD. If the CD covers are for live performances, information on date and location may be included. Recognition data for the musical selections will be included if the lyricist and songwriter are known.

CD covers can also be used for other purposes. So long as you are not using the album art for commercial purposes or infringing upon copyright laws, you can share the covers with friends, use them to decorate your space or your web page. You can also blow them up and make your own form of art for digital viewing or for the wall of your room.

Album art is becoming an art form all its own. It strives to tell a story, reflect a mood or express an opinion in a much more unique way than commercial advertising images do.

If you are considering using a web site that allows for downloading of CD covers, be sure that the quality of the download files is one that you will be proud to display, whether in the CD jewel cases in your private collection or reproduced as a poster, a dramatic statement on your MySpace page or to define your meaning when you post a fan blog about the CD.

If you elect to upload some of your original CD covers so that others can use and enjoy the art, be sure that the quality of the reproduction is as good as you can make it. Others won't want ill-defined files with low resolutions any more than you would. Make your cover uploads something that will be sought after by others because of their quality. It's also important to insure that any information you add about the artist, the publisher or the songs be absolutely accurate. Someday, the information that you are providing could be considered a reliable historical source.
