A band which was without a name for their first two shows is now a name that is known to every music enthusiast interested in alternative rock. The band being discussed is none other than Fall Out Boy or commonly known as FOB which came into existence in 2001. The name for this band was suggested by an audience member in their second show when the band members asked the audience to yell out suggestions for a name for this band. One of the suggested names turned out to be Fallout Boy which was in reference to the sidekick of the cartoon character Radioactive Man from the Simpsons. The band then adopted the name and has been the Fall Out boy ever since. The Fall Out Boy consists of Patrick Stump (lead vocals, rhythm guitar and composer), Pete Wentz (bass guitar, backup vocals and lyricist), Joe Trohman (lead guitar) and Andy Hurley (drums). Fall Out Boy has received many awards for their first major label debut album From Under the Cork tree and it also achieved the double platinum status by sale of more than two and a half million albums in the United states alone. However the lead single This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race by Fall Out Boy is one of my personal favorites even as a person who is not too fond of pop rock. This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race by Fall Out Boy was first played on an Indianapolis radio station in November 2006 and was leaked onto the internet even before the song’s official debut later that month. The primary lyricist of the Fall Out Boy band, Pete Wentz got the idea for the arms-dealer metaphor for the song This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race from the movie Lord of War. The song is reportedly a reflection of Pete’s frustration with the growing ‘emo scene’ which is ironic since most of the fans of the Fall Out Boy band consider themselves to be ‘emo.’ So in essence the song, This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race by Fall Out Boy makes fun of their newer fans. The official remix of the song features Kanye West. The song is the lead single from the band’s album Infinity on High that was released in 2007 and turned out to be a major chart success. The song This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race reached the number one slot on Pop 100 and the second position on Billboard Hot 100. The album was promoted by the Fall Out Boy band’s performance at the Live earth concerts in July 2007 and headlined the Honda Civic Tour in mid 2007. Fall Out boy is widely considered as an alternative rock band it is also described as a pop punk and emo. The band has also managed to keep alive the philanthropy aspect alive by being strong supporters of Invisible Children which deals with the issue of children from Uganda who run away from homes to escape being trained as child soldiers. A perfect blend of philanthropy and good music therefore makes the Fall Out Boy a much liked band across the globe.
