What if I told you that you were a great singer? What if I told you that you were capable of writing the next timeless classic of our generation? What if I told you that no matter how rough, pitchy, gravelly, weak or otherwise "unpleasant" your voice may be that you could have fans everywhere who would pay to hear you perform? What would your response be to that? Take a moment to put together in your own words how you would respond if I were to tell you these things face to face. Now let's look at your response. Does it leave a door open for possibility or does it slam shut any possibility that I might be right? Does it lend itself to accomplishment or does it create a barrier to success without even trying? Do you think or have you been told that your singing is so bad that there is no future for you and you "shouldn't quit your day job"? Well, let me ask you this and after rolling your eyes and jeering take a moment and look at the success enjoyed by these examples. Have you ever heard of William Hung? How about Wierd Al Yankovich?; or how about the mood altering stylings of our favorite Trekkers, Bill Shatner and Leonard Nimoy? Oh, what about the girls, you say? What about Kathy Lee Gifford or how about Wendy O. Williams? Not famous enough? Well, how about a little known dynamo by the name of Yoko Ono? Are you done laughing? Well, these people are all laughing too, all the way to the bank (with the exception of Wendy O. R.I.P.) not to mention.....YOU know their names!!
I'm hear to tell you that no matter what you, or anyone else for that matter, think about your voice, you can be a great singer if that is truly your desire. I feel that more than having a naturally gifted voice, your heart, desire and determination to succeed is more important and finding your own unique approach and style to singing will open the door to any and I mean ANY type of voice.
Developing a useful personal philosophy towards your voice and singing coupled with a few "what you should knows" is all anyone needs to sing to their hearts content and let it take you wherever you want it to.
When it comes to your singing the only limit to what you can do is what you are willing to do because as far as I'm concerned Heart, Determination and Desire called shotgun on Ability a long time ago.
Come check out my blog at http://freesingingvoice.blogspot.com where I am setting the whole of my philosophy towards singing to words I hope you will find useful in your search for your own voice.
Also you can come to www.myspace.com/Fishfight to see what I have done using my own methods and philosophy.

    About the author

Ian Hailey is a musician/performer who currently sings in a band called Fishfight. A scholar to the Academy of Life Ian chooses to be self taught in most of his endeavors based on a belief that this opens the door to creative thinking and self reliance. "Inventing or re-inventing the wheel is not necessary for success however the ability to do so should not be left entirely to others."...I said that.
