I learnt this great technique in an Ivanna Chubbuck Workshop.
The exercise consisted of sitting across from your scene partner and allowing yourself to go off into a sexual fantasy with that person without any limits.
Scary!? YES, but isn’t that what acting’s all about…going to those places that others dare not go?!
Here’s how you apply it in your acting auditions: It completely breaks down barriers between yourself and your readers in acting auditions or casting agents in your acting auditions. Acting auditions can be confronting but if you do this simple exercise you create a sexual energy or chemistry with your reader and guess what…the camera picks up that extra spark behind your eye and THAT makes you watchable!
Don’t limit yourself in your acting auditions by thinking that ‘the person in the scene opposite me is my mother or my father or my killer there is no way in the world I would have a sexual chemistry with them’.
It’s not about whether or not you would get sexual with them; it’s about that extra spark that makes you watchable, and makes them not want to take their eyes off you.
The minute you walk into your acting auditions start doing the exercise in your own mind, no one will know you are doing it, it will only take a minute and then you let it go and go on to do your acting auditions, the difference now is that you will have this residue coloring you from your little secret exercise.
