Having seen a few of the reviews against this movie, I am a little saddened, but not entirely surprised. I think we should be honest here, the majority of reviewers who didn't like this movie I suspect were heavily biased in that a lovely pretty young thing like Christina Ricci, would lower herself to sleeping with anyone including negroes, and the fact that a negro ties her up to a radiator, well that just would make a klan grand dragon roll in his grave. Joking aside, I think this movie shows us all a little of our demons, let's roll back a few years to 2005, "Monster's ball" remember that movie? We have a black woman, whose husband is executed by the prison guard who happens to be a white man, whose son dies as a result, and she is ridden left right, and centre by this prison guard, I believe one actress turned down Halle Berry's role as she didn't want to be in her words "treated like a whore", guess what the reviews for that movie were? You know Halle Berry even won an oscar for her role? Of being used and abused, by the prison guard's father, and the prison guard for his carnal pleasures. Let's come back to the subject at hand, we have a disturbed young girl, where a warm hearted black man is trying to save her from harm by chaining her to a radiator, he didn't jump on her, he didn't make "her feel good", he treated her like his daughter the entire time, yet I hear this was shocking, people stood up and left the cinema, I certainly didn't hear about people getting up and leaving during Monster's ball, afterall the leading man and woman slept together. I applaud Christina for taking the role, she made a convincing and believable performance, and Samuel Jackson for his excellent portrayal of a godly blues musician in the deep south, and all the supporting cast gave a stellar performance, this movie had a message which is something "Monster's ball" to this day I can't phantom what it's message was; there are several Ray's right here right now right across the world who need help, if you are truly offended by this movie, then you need to take a good long hard look in the mirror, this reminds me of the treatment of Shilpa in the media during celebrity big brother.
