6 Tips For Creative Art Grouping

You’ve finally got all your art prints and pictures to hang on the wall, but you just aren’t sure how you can display them creatively. Read this article and gain some useful tips on how you can group your art in six interesting ways.

Top or Bottom Alignment

If you want to arrange your pictures on the wall in a horizontal straight line, you can align them along their top edges or bottom edges. Draw an imaginary straight line to use as reference. For example, if you have four pictures you want to hang on the wall with bottom alignment, hang the pictures on the wall with the bottom edges flush with the imaginary line. Top alignment is similar except that the tops of the pictures are flush with the imaginary line.

Combination of Top and Bottom Alignment

You can also have a combination of bottom and top alignment. Let’s say you have seven or eight pictures grouped together, you can arrange them in two rows, with four pictures in each row. Then arrange the top row of pictures to have top edge alignment and the bottom row of pictures to have bottom edge alignment. The overall outcome with this kind of arrangement is something that looks neat and orderly, but with variation and variety as well.

Corner Alignment

Define a rectangular or square area on the wall where your pictures will hang. Then hang four of the largest pictures at the corners, making sure they line up with the corners of the designated area on the wall. Use smaller pictures to fill in the spaces in the middle. This way, you will end up with a grouping of pictures that has an attractive mix of different sizes, yet it’s still organized and doesn’t spill out of the specific area.

Mosaic

Go wild with a mosaic arrangement! This form of arrangement allows you to display pictures of varied shape and size in any area of the group. But don’t overdo it or it may become too messy. Add some balance by perhaps centering some pictures or aligning the bottoms of some pictures.

Gallery Style

Want to have an art gallery in your home? Then this style is for you! This form of art arranging is uniform and neat, and gives the impression of an art installation in your home. The pictures should be identical in size, and be hung in a row next to each other, with a consistent gap in between each of them.

Diagonal Alignment

This form of arrangement is ideal for stairways. Draw an imaginary diagonal line that is in parallel with your stairs. Use the guide line as the center point for the pictures. Remember to hang the pictures at roughly eye level.
