The main message of John Marsden’s novel “Tomorrow when the war began” is courage, to be exactly the courage of seven teenagers forced to live in the bushes because of the war started unexpectedly. But they were not simply waiting the end of this nightmare, but occupied an active position struggling with the enemies. One of the most difficult tasks kids had was the demolishing of the bridge that served for the enemies. Soldiers transported with its help goods and their troops. Before starting their plan come true the teenagers discussed what they would have to sacrifice. And though every one was courageous enough, each kid was afraid to die. To cheer up the others Homer, the leader, told the guys they were Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. They could do whatever they were up to. In this way he wanted to inspire them. War is a horrible time when one faces it. Death is chasing you whenever you go. When you are a child it is double worse. But those seven kids were fighting, they did not stop. The victory in the war would never happen if not those kids. The friends had not committed the suicide, though they could. But being alive they would do much more to help their compatriots. And it is not the issue of fear. One needs to be courageous when he prefers to stay alive. That is the message. Do not give up. Teenagers were risking their lives, sneaking to the places full of armed enemies, blowing up the bridge. Not many adults could perform such deeds. They wanted to crawl under their beds waiting till the war would be over. But they had not a great choice. They wanted to survive, so they had to fight for their lives.
