“Mary Poppins” was written by Pamela Traver. Children always like to read books about magic and justice. These themes are well developed in the book. Kids always dreamt about the harmony in the whole world and were looking forward for the perfection. In this case I think children and adults look very much alike. The main character of the book is obviously Mary Poppins. Children love her – there is no word “impossible” for her. The miracles she performs are coming from some kind of mythology. Her supernatural skills make her goddess like. So kids are sure she has all the necessary powers to manipulate the world. Mary Poppins is almost perfect. She may easily control everything around her. It is definite that Pamela Traver is good at mythology, her knowledge is great. We see Mary Poppins as some kind of the goddess on the earth. But her powers do not end with this, her skills are much more various and numerous.
Many mythological qualities Mary Poppins possesses do not free her from responsibilities. She has many things to do around the house: she is to cook, wash the floor and the dirty dishes; she goes to the store to buy groceries, and the main thing is that she has to take care of the kids. She works efficiently and quickly. For instance when she undresses children, the buttons immediately fly apart. Mary Poppins protects the magical world being the creator. So her responsibilities do not end with house holding, but have the universal level. She is able to do so many things: teaching children, animal protection and care of numerous mythological creatures. She may even be a dog-human translator, when she talks to Andrew, the dog of Miss Lark. This goddess makes the balance between animals and people on the planet.
