Hunt is painting in terms of a London aristocracy male viewpoint. In his work The Awakening Conscience it is essential to know the East West multipart of Victorian London. The posing girl in The Awakening Conscience, called Anni Miller was the ill-fated one from the suburbs of eastern part of London, as it was just the right place where Hunt found her when searching for painting subjects. He became obsessed with the young woman and had planned to get married with her one time Hunt had 'improve' her nature however it never occurred. With a blindfold she paces on a sandstone stage, led by a pig ,which had a "golden tail", through an indigo sky. Three loves - prehistoric loves - disappear in tears ... The artist says that he created this in a period of four days and he worked in a chamber of azure satin, in the excited dwelling, alive with diverse odors, and there the opopanax plus cyclamen gave him a slight excitement favorable for creation or even for recreation.
