Acworth, GA June 10, 2007 Atlanta native, Darlene F. Wofford, author of "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember," has good reason to be excited about the success of her first of three novels in the series. She launched her summer book tour yesterday afternoon at Walden Books in Towne Center Mall, Kennesaw, Georgia, where from 1:15-3:00 she greeted customers at the entrance and autographed copies of her book. The author has appeared at other book-signing affairs however this was her first event as a featured author for a bookstore. When asked if it was a good experience, she eagerly responded, "It was a blast! I really got a kick out of one lady who told me she is an avid reader and has tons of books at home in Florida, but this is the first and only one autographed by the author--and that I was the first author she had ever met! I think I was more excited than she was to meet someone so enthusiastic. I was only there a little less than two hours but I met so many wonderful people and the sales went well, too. Couldn't ask for much more than that! I've lived in this general area almost 35 years, so I wasn't surprised to see several people I know, but I was still excited to see them, so of course that made the good day even better. My husband and I were expected at another engagement or I would have stayed longer, but I'm really looking forward to next week at North Point Mall." Based on true events in the author’s life, “An Assignment to Remember” is the first of three novels in her “Edgewise” series, with the second, “Seven Years ‘Til Sunrise,” scheduled for release next year, followed by the third in 2009. The term "Edgewise" is used to describe the book's protagonist as a shattered woman in an edgewise state of mind--driven to the edge by back-to-back traumas. However, "An Assignment to Remember" is not as much about the traumatic events as it is about her healing progression and renewed hope, as Mrs. Wofford tells her riveting story through the eyes of her alter-ego, Delaney Rutherford. To quote Page One Lit literary newsletter, "Wofford is a wonderful writer whose personality and charisma is vivid in every word and sentence in her new book, "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember." This is the most honest, heart-inspiring book ...(of the)... year. "Edgewise" is an example of how one woman wants to live in the past but realizes she can't. It is about confronting reality. It is about emotions. It is about communication. It is about life." A reader sums it up nicely on Barnes and Noble's web site in her review, "Edgewise took me on an emotional journey of laughter, sorrow and hope." If the name Darlene Wofford rings a bell it may be because she and Carl, her husband of 40 years are both native Atlantans, and along with sons Kenneth and Cory, have been Woodstock/ Acworth residents for 35 years. She has been in the mortgage finance industry for 20 years, and every Saturday morning in 2006 from 10-11:00, she co-hosted an hour-long Atlanta radio talk-show called "Your Inner Voice.” She has also been interviewed recently regarding her novel on several Atlanta radio stations. The next stop on the author's tour is Saturday, June 16th at Waldenbooks in the upper level of North Point Mall, Alpharetta, Georgia. Mrs. Wofford will be greeting guests at the front of the store and signing her novel from 2:00-4:00. They are located at 1132 North Point Circle, Alpharetta, 30022 and their phone number is 770-740-8341.
