TomTom GO 910 vs TomTom GO 510 quick review

TOMTOM GO 910

TomTom has updated its Go series of GPS units with three new models, the 910, 710 and 510. At the high end, the 910 comes with maps of Europe, the US and Canada preinstalled, no doubt for those drives from Alaska to Russia across the Behring Strait. It also includes text-to-speech functions and a built-in MP3 player. All three new models come with a 4-inch widescreen touchscreen display, a dock for quick connections to a computer and an optional traffic info receiver. All models will be available in April; pricing has yet to be announced. Oh, and Steve, it'll work with your iPod.

With the TeleAtlas maps for North America and Europe pre-loaded, there is no need to download maps to the TomTom Go 910. Using the touch screen, enter the address or point of interest that you are traveling to and the TomTom Go 910 will route you there. The GO 910 gives you 4 different routing options: quickest, shortest, avoid toll roads and by required arrival time. You can also chose between a traditional overhead view of the map or a 3-D view for a true perspective of what is ahead. Once you are on your way the GO 910 will guide you along with verbal turn-by-turn directions through its powerful built in speaker. You will also get Text-to-speech guidance, which not only tells you when to turn but also speaks the name of the street that you are turning onto. If you miss a turn the TomTom 910 will recalculate your directions and get you right back on track.

With the addition of a BlueTooth capable phone you can use the TomTom 910 as a hands free calling device. This will allow you to use the GO 910 to answer incoming calls or to make calls to your phone book entries or selected points of interest. The 910 also has the ability to connect to an optional traffic receiver for real time traffic information. The optional traffic receiver will send traffic tie-ups, construction and other delays to the TomTom GO 910. The TomTom GO will use the traffic data to calculate a new route to get you to your destination without minimal delays.

The TomTom GO 910 also features iPod control, which will allow you to connect your iPod to the GO 910. You can also store MP3 files right to the 20GB hard drive. You can listen to your MP3’s through the high-quality built in speakers or use an included audio cable to send the songs through your car stereo speakers. Other features include a home dock, which will allow easy updating of your Tom Tom GO 910, Speed alert to alert you when you have exceeded a designated speed, a light sensor to automatically adjust the units display for any lighting condition, and the ability to view digital photos right on the 4” display. Unit Size: 4.2"H x 3.1"W x 2.5"D, Display Size 4" diagonal, Weight: 10.5 Ounces. One Year Warranty.

I travel to Europe or Canada so for me TomTom go 910 is better because all maps are on one 20g hard drive, other than that there is no reason to spend around $200 more. Both can be easily connected to Ipod,
