Internal Communication InternalCommunications.co.uk has been built by internal communicators for internal communicators. In building this, we simply wanted to create a place where people working in the field of internal comms could visit and discover the latest thinking as well as share your ideas. We hope you find Internal Communications a helpful place and we encourage you to get as involved in sharing information as you want to. Alternatively, the forum is here for everyone to share their ideas, issues and problems and to benefit from all our collective knowledge as internal comms professionals and employee engagement specialists. We'll work with you to shape your culture; to improve the way your employees, managers and leaders communicate; and to mobilise your people behind change. Those three words are our passion and they underpin all we do. Whatever your brief and budget, we approach all projects with the same end goal – to make a clear and demonstrable difference. Outcome over output. Put simply, we deliver. That’s where Gatehouse comes in. We’ll work with you to manage, evolve and reinvent the way you communicate. Whether you need a communication audit, a full scale strategy, implementation of an existing plan or a new suite of channels, we can help. We deliver great programmer and campaigns. We transform the way line managers communicate. We bring vision and values to life. We design superb events. We craft messages and ensure they get to, and get through to, your people. We develop award winning channels. We research best practice. We measure effectiveness. We create integrated strategies. We develop communication plans. Communication is a two-way process which requires information to flow up from employees as well as down from managers. Managers need to communicate information to employees about: • contractual terms and conditions of employment • the job and its performance • the organization’s performance, progress and prospects • changes to any of the above issues. Employees will also have concerns and points they wish to raise about their jobs and the organization and there should be provision for communicating this information up the line. One question this does prompt is how much time and effort do we internal communicators put into improving inter-team communication? In my experience it's very little. Most teams concentrate on communication across the whole organization and between various hierarchical levels (leader to troops, line manager to subordinate, supervisor to front line employee, and so on). I don't know of many that are focused on improving communication between teams, business units, divisions or subsidiaries.
