Are Top Jobs Out of Reach?

One important factor that councils need to remember when planning for different zones in their region is that people need to be relatively close to the jobs they need to access. Not everyone finds it easy to commute, and if commute times are long then prospective employees are likely to seek jobs in other areas.

Job seekers not only need quick and easy physical access to jobs, they need the infrastructure such as public transport and good roads in place so that if they have no car, there are other transport options for them. The economic boom that we all like to see can come to a grinding halt if workers cannot get good access to jobs. After all, who wants to spend two or more hours of their precious time travelling to and from work?

Having plenty of top jobs available in any given region is an ideal economic climate, but if those jobs are inaccessible to the working public due to travel times or lack of public transport, they may as well not be there at all. Business growth is dependent on employees being available to take on the varied jobs. If those prospective employees have to travel long distances each day it is going to cost them more than the job is worth, both in time and fuel costs. Therefore they will choose the closer and cheaper jobs. This will certainly hinder the development of business in out of the way areas.

Of course, distance is not the only thing that puts top jobs out of reach. Lack of training is another aspect that should be considered. Top jobs are only offered to those with the necessary training to do them well. So if you are after one of the top jobs, you’ll need to complete the necessary training - if that is available in your area. If it’s not, you could consider relocating so that you can do it.

Relocating is certainly not easy. You have the expense and stress of moving out of your familiar area to one where you have no friends. Then there is the trouble of finding your new accommodation, and getting the family - if you have one - settled. But it could be well worth your while in the long run. Once you’ve trained and gained some experience, you will find that those top jobs are now well within your reach after all.
