Who won't want to be Big Brother? To be the all-seeing, controlling god of all? Well, perhaps not "domineering god of all" but being the all-seeing person will be just as powerful, don't you believe so? That could be one cause why there are a lot of issues with regards to utilizing hidden spy cameras, assault of privacy being one of them. Power is always something that anyone abhors and, ironically, anyone wants. Spy cams, while they're a benefit to a certain individual, can be so damaging to another. They can be a significant tool or something that would bring you down. There is this one case involving a professor who utilized a hidden camera disguised as a button to film misbehaving students in school. The students and their families have filed complaints against the said professor for "abusing her authority" and filming the students without their permission. Indeed, it was illegal for the teacher to do such, but if we look at it the other direction, we could notice that what the professor was actually doing was revealing these behavioral matters to the public so that they may be addressed properly. I'm relatively sure that the Virginia Tech accident is still new on all people's minds. Such behavioral leanings could have been recognized beforehand and consequently avoided the incident from happening. If a hidden spy camera is what it requires to prevent such tragic incidents, then I will not mind teachers recording their students at school in any way. Yet there are also some who misuse the advantages of hidden video cameras. I would assume all are aware of concerns of scandalous actions caught on video that are being used to blackmail a person. Or those that obviously invades somebody's privacy as in placing concealed cameras in places wherein surveillance is not necessary, i.e. the restroom or personal rooms for reasons of personal satisfaction or malicious intent. Stalking using spy video cameras is also another mode of misuse of this technology. Yet there is one thing that surprises me. Some homeowners utilize nanny cameras to monitor their baby-sitters and house helpers while they're away. And these nannies are not conscious of the existence of the spy camera until they get caught performing some hanky-panky and dealt with about it. Still nobody seems to be protesting. If they get caught abusing a kid or doing something wrong, the matter of the nanny's right to privacy is never raised. It's because the owners possess the authority to do whatever they like to secure the family and the nanny did something wrong. Thus, when is the utilization of covert surveillance cameras defensible and when is it not? Seemingly, the thin red line dividing them is much thinner than we thought. When the individual making use of the surveillance camera is in power, its utilization is justified. Yet if resorting to use covert spy cams would make us more secured, then I am for it. Furthermore, why would I be concerned about it when I'm not doing anything that is against the rules or is morally wrong? Yet as long as they keep well behind the line, it wouldn't be an issue.
