Have you ever thought about an idea, but you never followed up through to make money? You are not alone. Then there are those who follow through their dreams and somehow make it big financially speaking. What is it that those who succeed have that the majority of people on the planet do not have? Are we not all human beings, living on the same planet? In my perspective, those who become rich by being self made millionaires think and work smarter than those who do not make as much money. Would you not agree? There are many examples out there showing that a very simple concept can rip enormous financial dividends. I find time and again examples of very accomplished people who started close to nothing and ended up at the top of the ladder of rich and wealthy people. They had to sail against all kinds of adversities. Some had to cry others to sweat and many others had to sacrifice time and pleasure. When I read about how Google, Yahoo, Linux, Microsoft and many other companies started, it is amazing the creativity and pressure the owners endured at the beginning. For instance, read about how Google began and one is filled with admiration for such a well executed concept turned into one of the most accomplished businesses in our times. Or read about how Yahoo came to be, and once again one is filled with joy and curiosity of that pioneering concept. But this article is not about those prosperous companies I have mentioned. Instead, let’s take a small journey into one of the most successful business concepts, that not only did it create wealth, but it also earned the admiration of great thinkers and philanthropists in the world. Indeed, that business concept earned one of the most accomplishing prizes: the noble prize. Here is the story. The man who started it all is from Bangladesh – his native country. Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries on the planet. They do not have the know-how or the financial elements to overcome poverty, much less to develop a country. Needless to say, that to start a business venture in that part of the world and succeed in that country is certainly a major undertake. It was in the midst of it that a gentleman by the name of Mohammad Yunus started a concerted business idea that would turn the eyes of the world to Bangladesh. He started with about $300 in his pocket. How many of us have the ability of turning a $300 into let’s say ten thousand bucks? Probably a few of us, right? Well this guy turned the $300 bucks into thousands and then into millions of dollars worldwide as a banker. How did he do it? He modeled a concept that we all take for granted daily. He wanted to help people. Yes, poor people. He noticed that in Bangladesh, in fact on the planet, most women bear the weight of poverty. He thought that if women could have access to small loans to start small businesses and be given an opportunity to repay, then he would help them get out of extreme poverty and in the process he would make money as well. To make things easier they would repay the loan at a very low interest and very flexible terms. He had all the ingredients to entice borrowers. They came to him for help into thousands and thousands and thousands to apply for micro-credits sometimes as little as a $1. Here is where he really makes an impact in people’s lives: Those borrowers' children have become doctors, engineers, nurses and many other professionals.
