I recently experienced a little bit of difficulty when trying to download a podcast. I thought I would share my findings………… Problem One When I clicked on the link, nothing happened. Problem Two The file didn’t download but started playing in “insert default web mp3 player here” The different problems can both be sorted out the same ways. First off, open windows media player. If the link doesn’t work, right click on the DOWNLOAD link and select open webpage in a new window. Copy the URL (Ctrl+C) that appears in new browser window.(e.g. last one was http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rmhttp/downloadtrial/6music/russellbrand/russellbrand_20060724-1700_40_st.mp3) Go to the File menu in media player (top right of screen) click on it and then select Open URL from the drop down menu that appears. Then paste (Ctrl+V) the URL into the prompt screen that has appeared. The podcast should now start playing, stop it and select Save from the same file menu we just used. Save the download somewhere simple, )either mymusic or desktop so you can find it again.) If the file is opening in your default player instead of offering the option to download you can either follow the steps as explained above, open the file in a web download program, (e.g. mass downloader) or change your default web settings. How to set your default MP3 streaming player: Winamp: In the main title bar menu (click on the 2nd button or right-click anywhere in the title bar), select options-->preferences. Choose System-->Media. AOL: To use an alternate player since the AOL player is not up to much, change this setting: keyword preferences > multimedia > uncheck "use AOL media player for supported file types".
