As a computer geek, I have found myself searching for something in Google so many times, that I, for sure, needed a web community ready to answer my questions and save me the awful time lost in searching of something.
Most of you who use Linux for a server or a desktop PC may know websites like linuxquestions.org, linuxhelp.org or similar. These sites, however, are extremely huge and if you want to find what you’re looking for, you will end up searching again, this time the website’s search engine or you can play smart and ask your question, but the answer will, most likely, be “use the search, moron!”. We have to accept this, I mean, there is no point in posting one thousand threads that ask for the same thing, just because you’ll save some time.

So what I needed was a small community of people working in (or just in the deep waters of) the IT sphere, who might know the solution to my problem, I was looking for a tiny forum with not many posts so that I can avoid the use-the-search “issue”. I couldn’t find one, so I finally had to find my “salvation” myself, as always.

A few days after, as I was surfing the internet, looking for some new link exchange websites, I found a page, just as the one I described above. What caught my eye was the title: “Restart Later Project” – the name implies for their small project – an uptime client. They have created their own software for calculating your computer’s uptime and connecting to their server to write it down. This client comes in two flavours – Linux and Windows.
I thought that was an ambitious project so I clicked the Forum button and there it was, just as I desired – a brand new forum with categories for design, development, photography (and some others) and only one post from a few days ago saying “hello, please refer to this forum for any questions”. Just to make sure that this website is not completely forgotten by its Gods I registered and PM-ed them with a question about a Linux problem and I got my answer… the next hour.

I was not asked by anyone to write this article, but I believe that these people deserve some users to whom they might be able to help and who would contribute to this bold and promising project. Besides, they seem to grow - today they have some more users and some more posts. Check them out at http://www.rlater.org

    About the author

I'm a web designer and developer. I use Linux as server and desktop OS, however Windows seem to prevail when it comes to certain software which not only costs a lot but is also pretty useful.
Writing is a hobby of mine which I exploit in some magazines and blogs.
