1. Be sure to include keywords within your title tag so search engine robots will know exactly what your pages are about. The title tag is located towards the top of your page within the head tags. Insert keywords and/or key phrases -- this will greatly improve your ability to bring highly targeted traffic directly to your website. Your title tag should be easy to read and should be something that "humans" can relate to, as this is what shows up in search results -- so be sure to treat it like a headline!
2. Use the same keywords as anchor text when you are linking the page to different pages on your website. This is extremely useful when your website contains many pages. Remember, the more keywords that link to a specific page -- the better!

4. Whatever you do -- DO NOT use the same title tag on every page on your website, otherwise search bots might mistakenly determine that all of your website pages are the same (because all your title tags are!)... which could obviously impact your website getting indexed correctly.
5. Be sure not to spam the description tag (or keyword tag) -- by using meaningless keywords. This can hurt page rank, and again can impact your website getting indexted correctly.
6. The MOST COMMON mistake is to take any link you can get -- DO NOT -- link to "link farms" and/or other environments that are not search engine friendly!
7. If you're going to use doorway pages -- do so with moderation, as doorway pages are designed for search bots only, and not humans (search engines prefer to index human friendly pages containing legitimate content which is relevant to their visitors search).
8. Using title tags as text links will add weight to your links as well as to the page they're used on.
9. Be sure to describe ALL of your website images by using the alt tag. This will assist those engines which index images, in finding your pages -- and will also prove beneficial to visitors to your website that are using text only web browsers.
10. Although submission software may prove to be tempting -- the BEST results are always obtained when you take the time to submit your website to the search engines yourself. Listing your own website decreases any risks for penalties (and in some cases, getting banned). Self submission also ensures that you know EXACTLY where your website is being submitted. If you're going to use a submission service -- be sure that they are credible and that they submit your website "by hand".
