In 1991, Lexmark was born as a branch off of IBM’s print sector. They make and distribute printers and printer products and accessories to this day and are located in Lexington, Kentucky. However, there are many other offices for Lexmark all across the world. In 1994, all IBM insignia were removed from Lexmark printer products as the company had made a name for itself and was successful on its own. The company went public in 1995. Lexmark’s primary products include laser, inkjet and dot matrix printers. Both monochrome and color models are available, including Lexmark all-in-one printer, copier, scanner devices. Models for home use and larger corporations are available. With over 13,000 employees across the world and 4,000 at their headquarters alone, Lexmark has come a long way from its birth in the early nineties. They currently make third-party products for other companies including Dell. With $5.2 billion in revenue in 2005 alone and as a current Fortune 500 company, it is no wonder why Lexmark is one of the leading printer companies in the world. Lexmark was the first company to offer an inkjet printer for under $100 and were also the first to promote a 4800 x 1200 dpi and a 3600 x 1200 dpi resolution. Keeping on the trend of “firsts” they were also the first company to make a photo printer that could work on its own as a standalone model. They are always on the look out for ways to expand the market for printing, including affordable printer models and even all-in-one models. Lexmark also works hard to make sure the latest products such as digital imaging devices are incorporated and fully usable with their printer products.
