Extra toolbars on your browser page are not necessary. The basic functions of a toolbar are the same no matter what toolbar you use. Sometimes, programs that are downloaded by you onto your computer come with other items that hide and gain access to your computer systems.
Downloading something sponsored by Yahoo! or certain other applications could have landed that unwanted Yahoo! browser toolbar on your Internet Explorer page. The Internet Explorer home page may even have been automatically changed to Yahoo! by these programs. They can operate behind the scenes and monkey around with the internet settings without your consent. Toolbars are hard to get rid of, but it can be done.
I checked out the Yahoo! website for myself. Under the Help category, you can enter questions to find answers to your computer problems. There is a Yahoo! Companion browser toolbar page that offers help with troubleshooting features of the toolbar. This Help page could offer advice on how to remove the toolbar.
If your computer uses Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0 through 5.5 or your operating system is Windows 95 or higher, you may be able to remove the toolbar yourself. Understand that the Yahoo! toolbar may be embedded in your computer in such a way that you can’t even hide it, let alone remove it. But, it’s worth a try.
Click on “View” from the Internet Explorer toolbar. Check to see if there is a listing for “Toolbars”. Click it. If Yahoo! toolbar is mentioned, then you should be able to delete the program. If it is not available, you’ll have to try to delete the toolbar from the toolbar itself.
From the Yahoo! Companion toolbar, click “Edit”. Choose to remove the toolbar. You will be prompted to make sure that removal is what you want. After the toolbar is removed you must restart your computer. The Microsoft website offers this information and other technical support for toolbar removal at http://support.microsoft.com.
