There are many advantages of building your own computer, many of which we will discuss in this article. Self computer builds are becoming ever more popular due to the advantages and the outcome you receive when building your own computer.

The average consumer who is need of a new pc is more than likely to visit one of the many popular, industry leaders in computer manufacturing. In most cases, these large scale computer suppliers have only a limited amount of models, with limited upgrade options. If you are to build your own pc, you are able to customize every aspect of your computer from the specification to the general appearance of your pc.

The huge advantage of been able to choose your desired specification is one of the main reasons why more and more people are deciding to give computer building a shot. You can spend as little or as much as you like to receive the desired performance of your computing needs.

Many pre-built computers have the operating system already installed. This isn't necessarily a good thing, considering what many manufacturers do to the operating system before it reaches your desk. The larger computer suppliers will alter the operating system, by adding their own "unique" touch to what your system contains.

This "unique touch" can be full of trial programs (e.g. anti-virus, firewall, photo editing programs) and changes to various standard applications such as your browser. If a supplier or manufacturer is close to an internet service provider, they may alter some of the browser settings to accommodate for that ISP. These alterations "clutter" your pc and the original installation, which may make it run slower in some cases, or cause compatibility issues with other programs. The main advantage related to this problem is that if you install your own operating system, not only do you get to choose which operating system you would like, you get a clean, fresh copy with no alterations which is how the operating system manufacturer intended.

If you are unsure whether you have the knowledge to build your own computer, there are many guides available which will take you through the computer building process, step by step. The process is actually relatively easy and once you get your head around a few fundamentals, building a computer is like building meccano.
