Many parents have wondered about the benefits of homeschooling. Homeschooling has been the fastest growing educational alternative in this country for several years for one very good reason: it works. Maybe you're tired of anguishing about whether or not your children are getting a good education in public school. Maybe you're tired of paying private school tuition. Or perhaps you just want to live and learn with your children rather than giving up that pleasure to others. Well you too can homeschool your kids and have fun at the same time.

The rise of homeschooling is one of the most significant social trends of the past half century. This reemergence of what is in fact an old practice has occurred for a distinctly modern reason: a desire to wrest control from the education bureaucrats and reestablish the family as central to a child's learning. Homeschooling is almost always a matter of choice. Schools are generally available, but homeschooling families have chosen not to use them for reasons that we know all too well.

Surveys show that there are close to 600,000 children being taught at home today. All sorts of people homeschool. Homeschoolers live in the country, city, suburbs, and small towns. Some are single-parent families. Some run family businesses, and some combine working with homeschooling. There's no place like home, has become the mantra of successful homeschoolers. By most measures, the modern homeschooling movement is a triumph. The actual undertaking requires initiative, patience, and, in many cases, financial sacrifice. But this grand educational adventure continues to work because resourceful homeschoolers have largely been left alone.

Homeschooling allows parents to control what their children learn. It is legal in every state, and parents should protect themselves by learning the local law and joining the Home School Legal Defense Association. Support groups are a good source of help. Always do your homework and investigate the local law for your own and children protection.

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about homeschooling explain the benefits of home education and dispel some typical misperceptions. Increased safety is a main reason for homeschooling. Things like physical violence, drug and alcohol use, psychological abuse by schools, peer pressure to engage in premarital sexual behaviors are the most obvious reasons for homeschooling your children.

Homeschooling, the world's most successful grassroots educational movement, is moving into more homes than ever. Millions of parents, frustrated with today's educational system are taking full responsibility for their children's education by bringing it home where it started in the first place when parents starting teaching their children to do the very basic things such as speak, where we have such terms as "mother tongue".
