Choosing a unique name for your baby

Congratulations! You are about to be joined by a new baby in your life, and are now faced with the dilemma of choosing the perfect name for the newborn. No doubt that a trend is rising in choosing a unique name. The main reason for this is our surroundings have become so similar. Where ever you look you encounter the same food chains, same stores, same adds, even the same houses and buildings. Life has become a struggle to stand out and be different. No one want to be "just another one of…" Society today is less formal and we seldom use the last name of a person with whom we are speaking. Using our first names so often, made these become increasingly important in our identity. It is also noticeable that society has become more fast changing and easy adapting, there for more welcoming to new and bizarre ideas as well as names. Today having an unusual one of a kind name does not have to become an obstacle for one, but instead may help in social relations and first impression. Most parents looking for an unusual name for their baby, are still hoping for a nice sounding name, with a good feel to it, which manages not to sound awkward despite its unusual nature. Here are a few techniques for creating a name like that: • Try to think of word you like in your language and convert them into a name. most existing words will not sound too funny or awkward, but still are original. Examples: Ebony, Nova, Sapphire, Jade. • Combining tow well known names: This will also help you keep the familiar feel and sound, which just roll off your tongue. You can use two existing first names, but family names and middle names might make it more interesting. • Create a very unusual name using unique punctuation as the placing of an apostrophe, a hyphen or using a capital letter. • Using names of places you like: London, Paris, Dallas, and Brooklyn are all good options. Think of a place you like and see if it fits. • Alternative spelling of existing names: Ryann or Delyia are good examples. • Use human characteristics as names – for example, Patience. • Words associated with inspiration: Hope, Glory etc. • Names drawn from nature: Lilly, Columbine or Daizy, and many more If all these options leave you without an answer you can try using a combination of sounds which you like, and letters commonly used. Try arranging these letters in different ways while adding or removing vowels oin different places, and listen to the sound of the word. If you find a nice sounding word but still are'nt satisfied, don't give up! Think about the sound of that word during a day or two and try to find similar names which posses the same sound quality but are better for you. Use your imagination! Give yourself time, the perfect idea will come. Don’t be pressured and don’t despair if the right name does not occur to you immediately. It might take a while but using your creativity will have its best results in time. It is a good idea to use the internet as a source of ideas for baby names. The site Baby names list contains many tools that will assist you in choosing the right name for your baby. Babyhold.com lists the most popular baby names by year, and also offers many ideas for unique baby names, baby names from different origins, baby names by country ( i.e American baby names, Italian baby names etc) and many baby names lists organized by category.
