If you ever wondered where your roots really lie and have thought of emulating the BBC 1 programme “Who Do You Think You Are” then there is now a new website that will help you with your needs. Family tree research is the mainstay of Scottish Ancestry.Org where a team of dedicated researchers are looking to trace your ancestry back over the centuries and bring it to life.
Whilst aimed mainly at the Scottish family tree market it does cater for those whose history ventures into the realms of England, Wales, Ireland and into the “New World”.
Many American, Australian and Canadian settlers have some form of link back to the UK through their ancestors. And by researching your family tree it is easily possible to discover existing relatives around the globe that you didn’t know existed.
It’s a fascinating journey when you research your family tree, but there are drawbacks as Scottish ancestry will tell you. The cost of finding a relative of yours isn’t really that cheap, and if you go down the wrong line of investigation, as can happen through no fault of your own, then the costs will shoot up. This makes your family tree research a real investment in terms of time and money.
You can, of course, take the sting out of it by looking to make use of a third party researcher but your choice must be very carefully made. Why? Well there are some websites who will not be researching at source and therefore will not have access to offline records. Imagine that you are a US citizen who has Scottish grandparents. Do you want somebody from Texas researching your Scottish roots for you? Of course you don’t.
That’s why Scottish Ancestry has an advantage because their research takes place mainly at the General Records Offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow. That’s in Scotland by the way, not Texas.
So if you want a professional service, check them out. Or if you want a starting point and some help and assistance then equally, check them out. They genuinely want to help. And…. They are Scottish!
