One sad fact of growing up is that we all eventually lose our belief in Santa Claus. While some would argue that holding on to this belief too long is not healthy, parents try to help children maintain this one remnant of childhood as long as possible. Children around the world write letters to Santa Claus every year. They tell him that they have been good and what sort of things they want for Christmas. Parents encourage this because it can help them to get an idea what their child desires. As children get older, they tend to become more skeptical about many things that were accepted without question in the past. Writing letters to Santa year after year becomes harder to do. This tactic will even work with some of the older children if they have not completely lost faith in Santa.
Another good way to help reinforce a child’s belief in Santa Claus is to arrange for them to receive a Santa call. Calls from Santa can come in two manners, live and recorded. Live calls usually cost more, but they can be well worth the price. Older children will be more likely to realize that a call is recorded despite new technologies that make many recorded calls highly interactive. In their cases, live calls may be the only way to go to keep it believable.
Santa calls are prearranged. In the case of live calls, the parents will be asked to share some personal details about the child receiving the call. After all, Santa Claus knows every child in the world. It would not do for him to use the wrong name or mention the child’s age and not be right. Pets are another detail that can add to the realism of the call.
Some Santa calls can be arranged that use prerecorded segments tied together by a computer. These calls are highly interactive and less costly than live Santa calls. They do have a major drawback in the case of older children. The necessary pauses while the program chooses the appropriate recording may be easily detectable by older Children.
Children in today’s world grow up too fast. Helping them to hold on to a little bit of childhood, belief in Santa Claus for example, can have some benefits. Two ways to help prolong that faith are Santa letters and Santa calls. Both are personalized to a specific child in a very believable way that will convince a child that he/she has heard from Santa himself.
