How to Thrive during a Recession

Regardless if we have been classified as being in a recession or not, the mentality of America says that we are in one. Evidence of job layoffs, house foreclosures, gasoline and food price increase, overwhelming bills and debt collection, and businesses closing are all around us. During a time of financial hardship, there are ways to survive, and even thrive, by applying various techniques to stay ahead of the game.

The first thing to know is that you need an action plan. Unless you write down what your goals are and aspire to reach them, you'll find yourself lost with all the bills and debt in the mail and lack of money in your bank account.

After knowing what your goals are, both financially and for your lifestyle, then you need to make a budget. This is something we have been told for years by many people but few of it does it. This helps us to see exactly where our money is going that we have and helps us to identify how to reduce our spending.

Creating an emergency fund for yourself should always be a priority. Even a few dollars a day or week can begin to grow a backup fund if you lose your job unexpectedly or need to travel for a family situation.

There are various ways you can begin to save money now, which will then give you more money this week to put aside and save. Learning how to spend less and be a smart shopper will also save you more money. You can receive free samples and coupons from various websites and stores for some products that you use in your daily life. Free meals is also a plus and helps to keep you from going hungry during those hard times. Learning how to barter or trade a service for a free meal, or how to find them in your community, is a huge plus. Another way to save money is to get out of debt sooner. You'll be saving money in the long run because you won't have to pay as much in interest and you'll also be reliving stress from having so much debt. Learning how to smartly lessen your debt is an invaluable tool.

What most of us automatically think is that we simply need more money. But if we don't have smart money management skills to begin with, any additional money we make will not help us. Learning how to make extra money while focusing on saving and using smart money skills will allow you to be more focused and determined on improving your financial situation and doing more than just surviving financial hardships - but Thriving!
