You Got Power, Use It

You’ve got Power, use it!

Using the parable of the talents, financial educator DOREEN CARTER paints a vivid picture to help you tap into the power within.

It’s time to live your dream. We do that by using what we already have—that special thing God has given us.
It all starts with knowing the meaning of goods and power. When I think about the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), I imagine servants of the Master working and cultivating their abilities. The scripture says, “For the Kingdom is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.” The term “goods” in the Greek is “Huparchonta,” and it literally means possessions, goods, wealth and property. He gave to each servant according to his abilities or his individual power to gain more. The word “power” in the Greek is “dunamus.”

Acknowledge that “something”
The Father has entrusted His goods to each of us. His expectation is that when He returns, He finds us gaining, multiplying. Now, how do we do that? First we must realize and acknowledge that we all have something to work with. It does not matter how much we have to work with. Acknowledgement and recognition is the key. When we realize that we have naturally been endowed with dunamus power, we must begin to cultivate it. We cultivate it by becoming an expert and gaining knowledge. We must become an expert at what we do naturally. Then we must go and learn as much as we can about that area.
As we prosper in that area, God begins to favor us. Our gifts make room for us and put us before great men. God strategically positions us in the market place as experts and the masses begin to look to us for the answer. You will see that the more answers you have the more your gifting will be in demand. It all begins with recognizing you have something in you that is powerful and needed.

Work every cent
Also, in recognizing that God has given each of us individual power, we must also realize He has given each of us a measure of money to work with. One person may have five talents; another may have two talents; and, another may have one talent according to their individual power (v. 15). Talent in this passage is tarlatan, and it means a sum of money. It doesn’t matter “how much money.” What matters is realizing you have something. The key is to learn how to take the money you have and sow it into your power or ability in a place that will cause you to gain more.
So understand that as you cultivate and grow the talents or money that you have, it will multiply. As you multiply what God has given you, He says to you, “well done.” He says you are good and faithful. God rewards faithfulness. God rewards diligence, not laziness. He will take the money He gave to the person that is lazy and give it to someone whom He knows will work every cent to gain more.

Keep it moving and cancel fear
According to Matthew 25:26, the Master at His return told the servant that had the one talent that he was wicked and slothful, lazy. He told him that he should have given His money to the moneychangers, broker, or banker to earn interest. The Master expects us to keep the money moving so that it will grow. The first defense against poverty is learning to save and invest. The minimum increase of any sum of money is interest in a savings account.
Then, the servant said he was afraid and hid the Lord’s money. Fear cannot only cause you to miss the truth about who God is, but it can also become a heavy weight that cripples you from moving into what you know is in you to do. God expects us to take the creative powers He has given us according to Deuteronomy 8:18 and cultivate them into an economic engine that would cause the resources we have to multiply. So if you have $500, then you should learn to turn that $500 into $1,000. Or if you have $200, you should work to turn the $200 into $400, and so on. But, if you look at what you have and become paralyzed in fear, then what you have will be taken away and given to someone who can take the little that you had and turn it into more.

The sole purpose…
If you are in a place where you have allowed fear to control you or you find it hard to save, then just take a moment to ask God to give you the wisdom you need to be freed from this demonic system of lack. Anyone can create wealth. But, you must first recognize where you are and move toward where God would have you. God has given us the creative ability to create wealth and to multiply what He has entrusted to us so that we will have the riches to bring back into the Kingdom. The whole point of creating wealth for a believer is for Kingdom building. Commit today to be a Kingdom builder. Be assured that the Father is faithful to provide your needs. Don’t get bogged down in what you see that may appear to be “not enough.” But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you.
Commit today to be a good and faithful servant/steward of the Lord Jesus Christ. Commit to obtain the knowledge you need to cultivate the natural abilities God gave you and see Him increase you even more.
