Throwing a Brunch

Whether it’s a Sunday morning and you want to invite some people over to talk, or you need to throw some sort of celebration party for a coworker’s promotion, a great way to do it is by holding a brunch. Throwing a brunch might seem difficult, but it’s not any harder than throwing any other type of party, you just need to know what you are doing.

First, you need to decide on a theme. Obviously, it’s going to be breakfast food, but try to be more specific. Is it going to be a quick do-it-yourself brunch with mostly donuts and bagels or hard rolls? Or is it going to be eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast with servers. The formality of your brunch will have a big impact on price and amount of work. For example, if you had a party with eggs, bacon, and sausage and you are having a huge amount of people attend, it will be much more expensive than if you had donuts and rolls. Try to understand that some foods are much more expensive then others, so pick according to how many people will be attending. This needs to be decided ahead of time.

Next, you need to choose the menu. If you are doing a quick do-it-yourself brunch, you need to agree on decide what exactly you are going to serve. If you are going to serve donuts, where will you get them? Are you going to need to also get juice, butter, etc.? If it’s more fancy, you will need to decide exactly what you are going to serve: eggs (what types), bacon, sausage, potatoes, toast, crepes, etc. Are you going to make it a pancake party? Make a choice if you will serve several different types of pancakes or several different types of toppings. Be creative. If you give many varieties, it can be more fun and exciting for your friends.

Decide on how much food you will need. Make sure you know how many people will be attending. If it’s at work, it shouldn’t be too hard because most people do go to work on a regular basis, but if it’s your own party, try to get people to R.S.V.P. Be accurate with your food so that you don’t waste food and money. If you are going to have eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, potatoes, and donuts, don’t expect that everyone is going to have the same amount of each. Still, make sure you have enough. Purchasing too much and having left-overs is better than running out and leaving half of your guests without food.

Finally, fill in the holes. Decide if you are going to have any decorations. You might get elegant tablecloths, napkins, and fancy plates. Or you might be okay with basic supplies but use lots of colors. There are tons varieities of things you can do with a brunch as far as decorations. Make a day, and ask people for help if there are going to be a lot of people. it’s for a large crowd. If you are asking others to bring food, make sure they are actually going to bring in what they offered and that they are bringing enough. Most importantly, don’t stress too much, just have a good time.
