How Tall Of An Artificial Christmas Tree Do I Need?

What is the best way to decide how tall your fake Christmas Tree should be.

OK – This is the one disadvantage of an artificial Christmas tree, you don’t usually cut the end off so it fits your space perfectly. So you may want to think about it a little before you buy one. Before I go on, this does not mean you can’t resize the tree, it’s just not typical. In fact many people get these trees so they don’t have to get a saw out.

In general, the best way to think about an artificial Christmas Tree’s height is to think about the space it’s going in and the tree topper you are going to use. If you have an 8’ ceiling and you buy an 8’ tree, chance are the top of the tree will hit the ceiling after it is put in the stand. The easiest rule of thumb is to take your ceiling heigh and subtract 12” and that is how tall your tree should be. If you use a really tall tree topper, consider that in the equation. Most houses accommodate a 7’ or a 9’ tree very nicely.

Artificial Christmas Trees come in 1’ increments starting at about 1’ high. This allows you to get the best tree for your space. Some people don’t like the work of decorating a tall tree. When I first got married, we bought a tabletop Christmas Tree because we were never home at Christmas time but still wanted some holiday cheer in our house. Our second tree was a hand-me-down that was 6’ tall. Really sparse but served it’s purpose for a long time. 2 years ago we upgraded to a top of the line 7’ Artificial Christmas tree that looks very real. We love the tree but because we are not the tallest people, we need a stool to decorate with. This is something to consider. Fake Christmas trees are to make Christmastime easier so consider easy to decorate ate the same time.

If you need to trim off a few inches, this is usually a pretty easy task. Just take the lowest section and cut off what you need making sure you don’t trim any vital parts off for the stand or lighting.
