I had a chance to look at hidden agendas in a different light. I used to look at hidden agendas in terms of doing something such as; giving, speaking or helping but with an ulterior motive to get attention or to gain something.
So when Ellie Drake asked me this week-end what are my hidden agendas as it relates to my passion, I did not comprehend the concept immediately. I had to do some probing before I understood the terms in which she was using the phrase hidden agendas.
In my book The Power of Transformation, I wrote about stumbling blocks, which is the same thing as hindrances, objections or hidden agendas. If I had been asked what are my stumbling blocks? I would have been able to answer without hesitation. Let me ask you this question, entrepreneurs; what are your stumbling blocks or hidden agendas?
We must become aware of our hidden agendas. We all have them depending on the contexts in which the words are used. I could think of hidden agendas in a positive way.
For example, I am driven by my purpose with a passion to have balance in all areas of my life, to live life to the fullest and to teach others to do the same. So that becomes my hidden agenda for pursuing my purpose with passion.
On the other hand I could look at hidden agendas in a negative way when I see them as obstacles that get in my way of pursuing my purpose with passion. I can think of many hidden agendas, and the biggest one is fear.
So what are your fears? Procrastination is another culprit that sabotages a person’s ability to have optimum productivity. Do you find yourself postponing things? If your answer is yes; do passion a favor and do not put off what you can do today for tomorrow.
Low self-esteem and indecisiveness are common hidden agendas. To combat this, make one right decision after another. You will get more clarity after you have made the decision.
I believe it is better to err on the side of making the wrong decision that not making the decision at all. If you make the wrong decision, just learn from it and do not make the same mistake again. Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.
If you are feeling as if you are alone in with the challenges you experience, you are not. We all have challenges; some more than others. Moses one of the greatest man who ever lived had hidden agendas. When God called Moses and gave him his assignments he had excuses for all of them.
I identify with Moses, especially when he objected to assume his speaking assignment. Moses pleaded with the Lord, O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled (Exodus 4:10). The Lord told Moses to go and he would tell him what to say.
The good news is; there is a solution to all of our hidden agendas. God gave Moses a solution to every one of his stumbling block, hindrance, objection or hidden agenda.
Do you believe God will do the same for you?
