The Futon - Convenience at its finest!

Futons are fast becoming one of the most sought after pieces of furniture for many homes these days. Gone are the days where futons are considered to be the “Jeeps” of home furnishings. Nowadays, with updated, modern styling, and health and sleep benefits that they provide, futons are fast becoming the “Mercedes-Benz” for the living room or bedroom.

In a fast-paced, busy world, we’re seeing a need to simplify our lives through convenience. More people are dining at fast-food chains (where even salads and fruits can be purchased for the health-conscious), shoes have incorporated wheels on the soles for riding around, and almost any products you can think can be purchased online at the comfort of your own home. With that said, people have found a way to make everyday living at their own homes more convenient; by replacing their conventional couches (and in some cases, their beds) with a futon.

Futons, having the ability to transform itself from a couch to a bed, reduce the need to purchase extra (and in many cases, needless) furniture. Futons also need far less flipping than standard bed mattresses. And even when you do need to flip a futon mattress, they are lighter, and easier to do. This feature also makes futons a breeze to clean. These convenience factors are the main reasons why so many homes are opting to include a futon in their house.

Not just for convenience, the futon has many health benefits as well. Did you know that futons are great for your back? Most futons are constructed with slats, and a cotton mattress, usually 3 – 6 inches thick. This causes the futon mattress to be slightly firmer than a standard bed mattress. The health implication here is that of a firmer mattress, allowing your spine to keep a straighter posture. Most futons are also made with natural or organic fibers, which provide better insulation, keeping you warmer at night as you sleep.

Many manufacturers of furniture are doing some amazing things with the futon. The designs of futons have evolved over the years. They’re using more streamline designs, for a contemporary and modern feel. Don’t be surprised if you ever come across a full transforming futon bunk bed!

It wont be long before the futon becomes a staple in most (if not all) homes. With convenience, health and sleep benefits, and great designs, it’s no wonder why futons have picked up so much popularity in recent years with no signs of slowing down.
