Advantages of Metal Beds

Do you want to add sophistication and style to your bedroom? A metal bed may be just what you are looking for to add that special touch. The bed is very often the focal point of your bedroom, therefore, what bed you choose is an important decision. The style of your bed can enhance the décor of your room and draw all of the elements of your bedroom together into that special atmosphere that you wish to create. Metal beds are just that, beds that are manufactured of different types of metals. There are a variety of types of metals used in these beds such as iron, steel, brass, satin-nickel and aluminum castings. There are innumerable finishes that you can choose from to have on your metal bed. Metal beds can be very ornate, but others are very simple in their style. Many metal beds contain special ornamentation called finial caps or globes at the top of the bedposts. The headboards and footboards often feature scrolling designs and detail work to accommodate a wide range of personal decorative tastes. Metal bed frame styles range from elegant canopy and classic sleigh designs to a platform bed frame with your choice of headboard. They are a durable bed, with a finish that is more resistant to scratching than paint. They are a classic way to enhance the décor of your bedroom, creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere to your bedroom. You can find Victorian, traditional, contemporary, artistic styles and just about any other characteristics to suit your tastes. You can also find a wide variety of beds that are a beautiful mixture of metal and wood, bringing out the best of both materials Brass Beds In the 1800s, having a brass bed was a status symbol and sign of wealth. The prestige and popularity of brass beds grew during the 19th and 20th centuries to the point where sales surpassed those of wooden beds. Because of their timeliness and range of styles, brass beds are the beds of choice for people renovating historic homes. Though the brass bed is often considered a Victorian piece of furniture, the styles of brass beds available are almost limitless: contemporary and modern, art deco, arts and craft, and varying interpretations of classic Victorian styles. Reproductions of older designs lend themselves to a more romantic look with elaborate scrollwork. More contemporary styles in brass beds feature straight lines and an overall, more simplistic look. However, some beds are embellished with black porcelain finials and other black accents to give a nice modern look. Iron Beds Iron beds were first made in the 1850's. Production of iron beds reached its heyday in the years just before World War I. However, when the United States entered "The Great War," iron was needed for weapons and other military purposes so the production of iron beds ceased. Today’s iron beds are constructed of cold roll, heavy-gauge steel tubing and solid bar stock for strength and durability. Iron beds have been around slightly longer than brass beds. Interestingly, iron beds were developed for their ease of set up and dismantling, especially in times of war. One major advantage of metal beds in the nineteenth century was that they did not harbor bed bugs, as wooden beds did! Since the introduction and initial popularity of brass beds, people who have not been able to afford brass beds have purchased iron ones instead. Even today, iron beds tend to be less costly than genuine brass beds. There is much more variety in available finishes for iron beds as well.
