Three Historical San Francisco Attractions That Are Worth Seeing
If you didn’t know that the Golden Gate Bridge was one of the main attractions in San Francisco, maybe you’re been hiding under a rock somewhere. It is something spectacular to see. The Bridge spans 1.7 miles long and you can either walk, drive or ride a bike across it.
It has been honored as one of the world’s most beautiful bridges in addition to their towers. What makes it so beautiful is its light, color and sound. In the summer time, the Golden Gate Bridge is bustling with activity. People come from all over the world just to see this bridge. Estimates show that at least nine million come to visit each year to see the Bridge.
By a monument called the Strauss Statue, the east sidewalk is available for access for bicyclists and pedestrians. If you’re walking, keep in mind that the cyclists come through often. Your best bet is to pay attention as they come by. This is a busy area, so you have to keep your eyes and ears open for anything that can pass you up in a moment’s notice.
Another main attraction in San Francisco is the Japanese Tea Garden. Did you know that this garden was part of the World’s Fair in 1894? The scenery in the garden includes a pond and a waterfall.
Being the oldest Japanese Tea Garden in the state, it still has artifacts that are from the 1894 World’s Fair. There is a pond encased in a small islands and there is also a tea house from back then. If you visit the Japanese Tea Garden during the latter part of April, you will be able to experience an early morning scenery like no other.
Alcatraz, or “the Rock” as it was called back in the day, was one of the most infamous federal penitentiaries in the nation. Now, you can go and take a tour of the facility. You can hop on a ferry to Alcatraz Island where you will get to see everything. During the day, you can follow the self-guide brochure that will tell you about the dock of the former penitentiary and the cellhouse. If you decide to tour in the evening, there are park guides available to assist you.
Alcatraz is also known as the first federal penitentiary that occupied the first lighthouse and U.S. fort from the West Coast area. You will also be able to see plenty of natural artifacts on the islands, such as bird colonies, gardens, tide pools and views of the bay.
