Without Alarm Monitoring, Why Have a Home Alarm System? When you installed your home alarm system, you were thinking about home security. However, without effective alarm monitoring, that system may do little more to protect you and your home than to give you peace of mind. What is alarm monitoring? Alarm monitoring is a service that will enhance the peace of mind that your alarm system provides you with. With alarm monitoring, you have someone watching your home for you whenever you walk out the door. Wouldn't you feel better knowing that, when you went out to the office, thieves wouldn't be able to go to work in your home? Wouldn't you feel better knowing, when you went out for the evening, burglars would not be able to get into your home, undetected, and be gone before you even gave home a second thought? Wouldn't you feel better knowing that, when you went on vacation, you would be able to come home after a few days, a week or longer and know that everything was just the way that you left it? With alarm monitoring, you would be able to have all of those things. At the very least, with alarm monitoring you would know that if something were to go wrong, an alarm would sound and the police would be quickly dispatched to take care of the situation. With alarm monitoring, all that you need to do in order to make sure that your home alarm system is keeping your home safe is to make sure that you turn it on each time you leave your house. But that does not mean that there aren't steps that you can take in order to be sure that your alarm system is working up to its full potential. You can make an effort to be sure that the phone line or broadband line that your alarm system is connected to continues to work properly. You can also test your alarm system as well as the alarm monitoring company with a few simple steps. First, call your alarm monitoring company to let them know that you are planning to do a test. Once you know that the alarm monitoring company is aware of your plans to test the alarm, the next step is to turn your alarm system on. Once the system is on, you can give it a few moments to become fully armed. Then all that you need to do is to walk past the motion sensors of you alarm system which will set off the alarms. Similarly, you can make an effort to open a door or a window that has been armed and allow the siren to continue to go off. After breaching your own system, enter your code to turn off the alarm and place another call to your alarm monitoring company; if the alarm monitoring is working properly, they will be able to tell you which signals were breached and you will know that the alarm - and alarm monitoring - are working the way that they are supposed to. And, in the unlikely event that they are not working properly, you will know and be able to have the problem quickly taken care of. Knowing that your alarm monitoring service is working properly will provide you with yet another level of peace of mind - the peace of mind that will let you sleep well at night and to know that your home will be monitored, even while you are asleep or away. Isn't that why you got a home alarm system in the first place - to be sure that you were safe? Mike Webber is director of marketing at GuardianAlarms.com.
