HEPA filters, know what to look for

All vacuum cleaner filters are meant to capture dust particles as they enter your vacuum and trap them so they are not redistributed back into the air. Some of these filters perform better than others; one of the best performing filters is the HEPA filter which stands for - high efficiency particulate arrestant. HEPA filters come in different categories and are separated into these categories by meeting certain test requirements.
The first kind of HEPA filter is known as HEPA type or HEPA like filters. They are similar in name and sometimes even look like true or absolute HEPA filters but they do not meet the strict requirements of the testing to be called a true or absolute HEPA filter.
Absolute HEPA or true HEPA filter have the strict testing guidelines to receive this designation. The testing requires the filters to trap at least 99.97% of particles of .3microns. If they pass the test and meet the high standards required the filter is assigned a serial number.
The true or absolute HEPA filter will cost more than other filters but if you are an allergy sufferer or just want cleaner environment they are definitely worth considering. When looking for a HEPA filter pay close attention to the wording of the filter to see if it is labeled an absolute or true HEPA filter. If you’re still not sure if it a true or absolute HEPA filter try to locate the serial number.
