The Dyson DC15 vacuum cleaner is not like an ordinary vacuum cleaner. In fact, you will probably spend a few minutes scratching your head when you first see it. Instead of using four wheels, as most vacuum cleaners use, the DC15 uses a single ball. The ball is approximately the size of a soccer ball. It is made out of a tough, grooved rubber compound. The motor for the DC15 vacuum is actually housed inside of the ball. The ball does not interfere with the vacuum’s suction capabilities, or get in the way of the vacuum hoses, tubes, or brush. The design of the vacuum improves maneuverability of the unit. Most vacuums slide forward and backward, but cannot move side to side without brute force. The ball allows the DC15 to roll in the direction you want it to by twisting your wrist. The vacuum is also able to tilt around the ball, which allows you to maneuver around table legs more easily. Due to the increased mobility of the DC15 people with bone, joint, or muscle problems may want to consider The Ball as a vacuum option when purchasing a new vacuum. The DC15 comes with the technology found in other Dyson vacuum cleaners, such as the Root Cyclone system, which does not lose suction, washable air filters, and a telescoping vacuum hose for hard to reach places. The major drawback of the Dyson DC15 is the price, which can range from $500 to $600. While the price is enough to make people do a double take, the Dyson vacuum cleaners are virtually maintenance free once you own them. You do not have to buy and replace bags, belts, or filters. The Dyson DC15 Ball is a worthwhile competitor that you should compare with other vacuum cleaners when shopping for a new one.
