Use Framed Art Photos to Give Your Room New Life

It's easy to improve your home interior by simply changing the wall decor. There are endless options available. This article will cover framed art photos, but you could also use paintings, wrought iron or other types of sculpture, cloth items, such as tapestries, blankets, and rugs, decorative tile either hung up or installed, and the list goes on and on.

Adding framed art photos is a quick and easy way to transform your room. It's important to first understand the kind of effect you want to achieve: modern, cozy, casual, formal, whimsical, etc. This will narrow and direct your choice. Also consider the furniture, accessories, and colors in the room. The new framed art must always compliment the existing decor. This idea can guide your choice of colors and themes. (Don't confuse mood and theme!) Also consider the lighting and the size of the space, who will use the room, and at what time of day the wall decor will be most viewed.

Matting for framed photos is an important factor, and it can contribute to the room's tone. For example, black & white photos with a pale ivory matting, instead of the regular white, have a nice antique feeling. Matting can also tie the photo to the room's colors. You can use the accent color for a single mat, or, for a more elegant look, try double matting. Use a neutral color for the top mat, and the accent color on the lower mat, with only about 1/4" of the accent color showing all the way around.

With your mood, colors and theme in mind, it's time to find framed art you like, that fits your decor. Choose an image that communicates something to you. It can be some place you've visited that holds fond memories, or a scene that gives you a certain feeling such as calming or exciting or humorous, etc. Also consider printing the photo yourself. It will save you some money and greatly expand the available options. You can use your own printer, if you have a good one, or download an image (with permission!) onto a flash drive and take it to a photo center. Be sure to use quality photo printing paper.
