How does it compare: Waxing, shaving, and plucking all produce hair removal which is short-lived. Several of the newer lasers have documented that there is permanent hair reduction after each treatment. The FDA has recently approved quite a few lasers for permanent hair reduction. How many sessions does it take: Although one laser treatment can produce long-term hair loss, multiple treatments are necessary for best results. The reason for the multiple sessions is because laser hair removal is most effective on hair that is in the anagen phase. Anagen is the growth phase of hair. Additional sessions are required to catch all of the hairs when they are in anagen phase. Are there complications: For the most part, laser hair removal is safe. In some cases there can be a change in pigmentation, or blistering, scaring, or burning can occur, however these are almost always temporary. What might this cost me? With the average cost being $500.00 it can get pretty pricey. Most doctors require 4 sessions, depending on the area for hair removal. So I can see how this could add up. The question you have to ask is it worth losing all that unsightly hair?
