Diabetes And The Wall
Click for Readable HTML Version Diabetes And The Wall by Shannon Hooven So many times I’ve heard a diabetic say “ I give up”. For one reason or another, the toll of this disease has not only beaten them physically, but also mentally. The long months of diets and exercise with little or no results slowly convince them their efforts are useless. Before to long they are back to eating unhealthy and not exercising. There seems to be no way out. Stressed out and filled with anxiety they become depressed. They have hit the wall and cannot get over the top.We all have felt the Wall. In one point in our lives or another we have come across a time when we thought that we just cant go on. Physically and mentally. Marathon runners claim that they hit the wall midway through their grueling twenty six mile run. They also claim that the last half of the race was easier than the first. How could that be? The truth may be they have enormous amounts of adrenaline pumping through their system. Or perhaps they kept on fighting, knowing as soon as they climbed that mental wall it would be smooth sailing to the finish line. My opinion is the later. When you are a diabetic many things have control over your life. The foods that you once ate often and enjoyed so much are off limits. You now seem reduced to just a few things that you find you can eat and like. Weeks go by, and it seems that you have eaten the same meal 100 times in a row. You start to feel the effects of the wall looming. This is when you begin to cheat on your diet at the same time, you slowly start to decrease your exercise routine. The next thing that happens is you just want to quit. You want to go on a sugar bender and consume everything that is bad for you. You want to stop exercise all together. You have just hit the WALL!Now where you go from here is all about will power. You can just give up and let the diabetes slowly kill you. Maybe getting a foot amputated isn’t such a bad trade for all the good food you’ve been eating. We all know that is not what we really want to happen, but darn that pizza sure sound good right now. At that very moment, when the pizza or other bad food is on your mind you need to make that big decision. Sink or swim. The perfect time to climb over the top of that looming wall is now. You must find a way to mentally motivate yourself.Gosh, how do I do that when all I’m thinking about is food? One of the best things that stops my hunger is to exercise. I will go for a run and punish myself for the bad thought s of giving up I have. When I run, it gives me inspiration to do better with my life. I feel great after a hard exercise. I’m not all that hungry, plus I don’t want to eat a bunch of junk and ruin the gains that I just made. That is how I climb over the top of my wall. Everyone will be different. You just need to find what motivates you and accept nothing but success.Who knows, by finding your way over your personal wall, you may find that all that effort is really paying off. Perhaps to the point in which you can control your diabetes type2 without medication. Set realistic goals and achieve them one at a time. Myself, my top goal is to be medication free. I’m almost there! You can do it too. Article source: ArticlePros.com About the author Shannon Hooven is a Diabetic. He is also the webmaster of http://www.diabeticsportal.com.
